The Great Meeting Point

Tamosura

Tamosura is an urban park in Cananea, Sonora, designed to promote family, sports, and cultural activities.

Since opening in 2013, it has become a gathering place for more than 200,000 visitors each year.

Its name is of Ópata origin. Tamosura means “Our Abundance.”

About Tamosura

Every time Delma and her family visit Tamosura Park, they follow almost the same routine. They walk around the lake while watching the ducks, her son runs to the playground, and when it is time for his taekwondo class, she takes the opportunity to walk along the trails and exercise. In the past, finding a place like this in Cananea, Sonora, was not an option; today, it is part of the routine of many families looking to spend time together, play sports, or simply enjoy a moment of tranquility.

Since its opening in 2013, the park built by Grupo México has brought a change to the community’s daily life by providing spaces that had not existed in the city for generations. Sports facilities, recreational areas, and leisure spaces became part of the surroundings, along with an area for local businesses, a hotel, and a lake that transformed the landscape. What once seemed far out of reach began to feel increasingly accessible. Over the years, the park became established as a shared space for the community.

Today, Tamosura not only provides a place for recreation, but also a space where the community creates memories, strengthens bonds, and finds an environment to enjoy with family.

Testimonios

Recognitions:

Tamosura Park has been nominated by specialized organizations in the sector, including the 2024 ANPR Awards (Mexico’s National Association of Parks and Recreation), in the Events and Recreation category within the Social Vote, an initiative that recognizes outstanding projects in urban parks and community spaces.

The project has also been featured on architecture-focused platforms such as Arquitectura Panamericana, which showcases projects presented at the Pan-American Architecture Biennial of Quito, one of Latin America’s leading forums for the analysis and exhibition of architectural projects.

In 2024, it received the Empresas Excepcionales award, which recognizes practices that create social impact and value in their communities. The park was highlighted as a case study for its integration of infrastructure, community use, and adaptation to its surroundings.

Tamosura has become a community model in action, where the responsible exchange of products and services is connected to social value, helping improve the quality of life of Cananea’s residents.

A Space That Transforms Its Surroundings

Human Development

The park promotes human development through high-quality sports and recreational infrastructure, including a running track, gym, sports courts, and a semi-Olympic swimming pool. These spaces encourage healthy habits, the development of sports such as swimming, and local talent, particularly among children and young people. It also offers recreational and cultural options, including playgrounds and sculptures made from recycled materials.

Economic Development

Tamosura supports the local economy by providing space primarily for entrepreneurs from Cananea and offering them training opportunities. It generates revenue that increasingly helps cover its operating costs, reflecting its progress toward sustainability. It also serves as a venue for events that promote employment and strengthen local businesses.

Urban Development

Tamosura is part of a broader urban development strategy that has promoted spaces such as Pinacate Park in Nacozari, Sonora, and El Minero Sports Park in Santa Bárbara, Chihuahua. These spaces focus on infrastructure that encourages community interaction, human development, and economic activity with local participation.

One of our priority areas is Community Development, which seeks to promote well-being and improve the quality of life of people in the communities where we operate.
